Ellen "Ellie" Bruner, a pillar in the Mahtomedi community passed away on April 24, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was the founder and president of the Wildwood Artist Series (WAS) for more than 30 years, where she encouraged an appreciation of the fine arts and musical education in our community. Under her leadership, WAS initiated the Professional Performing Artist Residency Program which funds extended residencies by performing artists to work closely with students at Mahtomedi Public Schools. Ellie retired from her WAS duties earlier this year.

Ellie was also known in the community for her beautiful gardens, which she loved to tour people through. In 2009, she was awarded the J Stanley and Doris Hill Legacy Award for community service for her lifelong commitment to service in the Mahtomedi community. At Ellie's request, the family will hold private memorial services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Ellen C. Bruner Artist in Residency Fund.
